Appointments

Knowing what to expect during the initial consultation with an immigration law attorney can make the experience much easier. The primary purpose of the initial consultation is for you to meet with the attorney and decide whether you want to work with her, and for the attorney to determine whether to take your case or not. You will also receive answers to your preliminary questions about your immigration situation and find out what options are available to you.

Book an Appointment

Meeting with an attorney is probably an experience that is not familiar to the majority of people. You may understandably be anxious as a result. Following these tips will maximize the productivity of your time with the attorney and result in a satisfactory consultation.

THE CONSULTATION WILL BE VIA SKYPE.

Due to COVID-19 our law firm has transformed into a completely virtual office. All consultations are held via video sessions on Skype, and all communication is done through phone or email. We find that this arrangement saves time and the environment, and we expect it to continue indefinitely.

KNOW THAT YOUR SERCETS ARE SAFE WITH US, AND OUR CONVERSATION WILL BE COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL!

We can assure you that our office is a safe, friendly, and non-judgmental space. You can feel comfortable talking about your immigration case, knowing that everything that will be said, will remain between you and the attorney. The attorney cannot talk about your case with anyone but you, and your right to confidentiality is protected by law.

FILL OUT AND RETURN YOUR CLIENT INTAKE FORM.

After you make your appointment, you will receive our Initial Intake Form by email. Please fill it in to the best of your abilities and email it back to us the day prior to your appointment. Your answers to the questionnaire will help the attorney to properly prepare for the consultation and thoroughly assess your immigration case.

PREPARE A WRITTEN LIST OF QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE.

Writing down all your questions in advance, so that you do not forget to ask them. Be prepared to take short notes, as the amount of information provided by the attorney is usually voluminous and can be easily forgotten later.

EMAIL COPIES OF ALL THE DOCUMENTS YOU WANT THE ATTORNEY TO REVIEW PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT.

If you have received documents from the government regarding your immigration case, please email them to the attorney the day prior to the appointment. These documents can be important to the analysis of the case.

Additionally, the dates in which events happened are very useful for the attorney during and after your initial consultation. We are always happy to see a written timeline of the events, as they can be very important for future deadlines.

THE INITIAL CONSULTATION MAY LAST MORE OR LESS THAN ONE HOUR.

Although we schedule each initial consultation for one hour, your actual appointment may last more or less than one hour. It depends on the complexity of your situation and how much information you were able to have organized before your initial consultation with the attorney.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE ACTUAL ATTORNEY-CLIENT INITIAL CONSULTATION.

At Lux Law, the attorney will take time to understand your situation and determine with you what our strategy would be to resolve your immigration situation. We will answer every one of your questions and will explain the law in the easiest way possible. We will try and find a solution based on many years of training, experience, and research.

We promise a straight shooter approach: the attorney will tell you honestly what your chances of success are and will not hide any negative legal realities from you.

RETAINING THE ATTORNEY IS ALWAYS UP TO YOU.

Meeting with the attorney at Lux Law for an initial consultation does not obligate you to retain us. In fact, the consultation is an opportunity for you to get acquainted with the attorney and decide if you will be a good fit together. The decision is always yours to make at any point in time. However, you should expect the attorney to present to you an approximate flat fee for your case and to email you a proposed engagement agreement after the consultation.
